Aboard the USS Enterprise, the most-sophisticated starship ever built, a novice crew embarks on its maiden voyage. Their path takes them on a collision course with Nero, a Romulan commander whose mission of vengeance threatens all mankind. If humanity would survive, a rebellious young officer named James T. Kirk and a coolly logical Vulcan named Spock must move beyond their rivalry and find a way to defeat Nero before it is too late.
It’s with a heavy heart that I upload this week’s podcast, with the news of Anton Yelchin who of course inherited the role of Pavel Chekov for the new series of Star Trek films.
We recorded this podcast two weeks ago and I was originally going to edit out a large chunk towards the end as Heath and I discussed the passing of celebrities and the reality of the sheer volume of them that we now have to face. It’s a little derivative from discussing the film and Heath and I had decided to keep on topic, but I’ve decided to leave the conversation in.
Not that it relates to this, from all accounts Yelchin’s death is an absolutely tragic accident well before his time and it is a shame that we won’t be able to see the future performances he had to offer.
The one piece of consolation is that Yelchin will now forever be part of the Star Trek community and has a place in cultural history.
